Baby L – Los Gatos Newborn Photography

I had the wonderful opportunity of photographing Teresa and Mat's newborn baby girl, Baby L. Baby L is a very special baby for so many reasons.  For one, she could not wait to meet her parents so she came a little early.  In fact, today would have been her birthday!  Happy Would-Have-Been-Your-Birthday, Baby L!

Considering how amazing her parents are, it's no wonder Baby L wanted to see them as soon as she could.  This is Mat and Teresa on their wedding day over 2 years ago.

Coming early clearly has its advantages.

More time together.

More time to be held and loved and cuddled.

Those first few newborn days are so full of love, excitement, amazement, exhaustion, emotion, craziness... but worth remembering every single moment.

Teresa and Mat, thank you for allowing me to photograph Baby L!  She is so beautiful and I am so happy for you both.

Baby W - San Jose Newborn Photography

A while back, I met Annie and Bryson through some mutual friends. Fast-forward a couple of years and Annie, our mutual friend, Andrea, and I found ourselves all pregnant... and then, fast-forward a few months, we were all new mommies!

We would meet up at one of our houses, nurse our little babies, change multiple diapers, and just talk to eachother.  When I think back on those first few months of motherhood, I think about Annie and Andrea... because they were kind of my touchstones.

Annie and Bryson are really cool parents.  Annie is totally artistic and crafty.  Bryson surfs and skateboards.  Seriously... they are like the hip parents I take notes from.

So, being the cool cats they are, I was so excited and honored when they asked me to take newborn photographs of their newest addition, Baby W!

Baby W was the dreamiest baby... like, literally.  He slept the entire time and probably kept his parents up all night (sorry guys!)  But... look at his little face!

Big brother Nico was enamored with him as well.

I can already see these two being best buds and getting into all kinds of high jinks together.

Baby T - San Francisco Baby's 100th Day Photography

Agnes and I have known each other since our college days at UCLA.  If I remember correctly, she was one of those students who had everything together.  I, on the other hand... Anyway, we both ended up here in the Bay Area and recently reconnected!

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of meeting Agnes' husband, Michael, and their little guy, Baby T.

It was Baby T's 100th day and, like most babies 100 days old, he celebrated with some milk... and a photo session of course!

Baby T has amazing hair.  It looks like fire.

I love photographing babies and families.

But photographing a friend I knew before she was a wife and mother.... with her husband and her baby boy... there's something very magical about it.

Agnes, it was so wonderful to see you after all these years!  Thank you for allowing me to capture these moments of your lovely family.

Eva and Mike - Maui Wedding Preparation Photography

I don't remember the first time I met Mike. This seems odd to me because he and my husband have known each other a very long time and have been through so much together.  They are kind of best friends forever.  So, you would think, meeting "the best friend" would have been an event that I would remember.

But I don't.

I can only conclude that Mike made me feel so comfortable at that first meeting that it didn't feel like I was meeting him for the first time.  It was like seeing an old friend again.

I distinctly remember the first time I met Eva.

Just kidding.  I don't remember that either.

I do, however, remember the first time Mike met Eva... on their wedding day.

This was right before we all left for the Haiku Mill, where their amazing wedding photographer was waiting for them.

I had spent the morning capturing Eva and Mike getting ready for their big day.

Eva had her hair and make-up done in the Halawai Lounge with her beautiful bridesmaids.

The A Family - Southern California Family Photography (Sneak Peek)

I had the very amazing privilege of photographing my sister-in-law's family last weekend.  I can't even put into words how excited (and super nervous) I was about this session! Amy has always been so supportive of my photography; from getting me my first camera bag to dressing up her gorgeous family so that I can photograph them!  I just wanted to deliver some awesome photographs.

This one, I think, might be one of my favorites.

Tips for Two - Freezing Homemade Baby Food

I have recently been making and freezing a lot of baby food.  This weekend, we decided to really encourage our first-born to use the potty. You may be asking yourself, "So what do baby food and potty training have in common?"  They both require lots of time at home, of course!

Some people buy baby food.

Some people make baby food combinations to reheat.

I prepare several different vegetables and fruits and warm up my own mixtures daily.  Why?  Because I like variety (I have a tendency to be a bit indecisive and like to make things difficult for myself).

Here was my baby food goal list for today:

  • 1 mango
  • 2 pears
  • 10 figs
  • 2 apples
  • 1/2 bag of frozen peas
  • 1 butternut squash

I try to buy all organic foods for my babies but I know there are lists that tell you which foods you don't necessarily need to purchase organic.

Freezing home-made baby food (1)

For the pears and figs, I tried to pick the riper ones so that I could simply peel and puree them without cooking them.

Freezing home-made baby food (2)

For the apples and frozen peas, I first steamed them (I peeled the apples before steaming) to soften them up before pureeing.

Freezing home-made baby food (8)

For the butternut squash, I cut the entire squash (peel still on) into approximately 2-3 inch pieces and steamed them.

Freezing home-made baby food (11)

  • The bowl of seeds is for me.  I always like to save the seeds so that I can wash them, dry them, and then throw them out a few days later because I failed to make this recipe again!  Someday... someday I will have this tasty snack!

Once the butternut squash was steamed, I waited for them to cool before I took a spoon and just scooped out the flesh from the peel.  Kind of like what you would do with a mango or an avocado.  (Side note: My mother-in-law got this steamer for us when my husband and I got married and, at the time, I thought, "When will I ever use this?"  Now I know.  Oh, the wisdom!)

Freezing home-made baby food (13)

After pureeing each fruit or vegetable, I poured the contents into separate freezer bags.

Freezing home-made baby food (6)

Be sure to fold the sides of the freezer bags out so you don't get food all over the ziplocking... ziplocing... part of the bag.

Freezing home-made baby food (9)

I don't think I scraped enough.

Once the food was poured out, I took all the air out of the bags and flattened the contents.  (This also works for leftover rice you want to put in the freezer.  The flatter you make it, the faster it reheats.)

Freezing home-made baby food (3)

I took some clear tape and wrote what each bag contained with a sharpie.  A word of advice: try really hard not to write on the countertop with your sharpie.  But if you do, don't worry... it comes off.  Well, most of it, anyway.  (It helps if you have a countertop that has lots of black marks on it already.)

Freezing home-made baby food (14)

Then I just piled up the bags and placed them in the freezer for tomorrow and beyond.

Hmm... what should we eat tomorrow?  Mango and pear with yogurt?  Butternut squash with figs, egg yolk and a splash of breastmilk?  The possibilities are endless!

This is my niece. Los Gatos Mommy and Daughter Photography (1)

Isn't it amazing how fast time flies?

I remember when my niece was born.  I remember the day we took her to the beach for the first time.  I remember her dancing on our wedding day.  I remember her making my mom smile... even from miles away.  I remember teaching her how to wink.

I remember so many things.  Which, if you know me at all, is almost as amazing as how fast time flies.

My oldest sister came up for a visit so we had to take the opportunity to make some memories.

Los Gatos Mommy and Daughter Photography (3)

A few things about my oldest sister.  She is one of the best sisters anyone could ever have.

Growing up, she took care of me while our parents worked.  She would make ramen for me when I got sick.  She would plan entire family trips for us (including renting a minivan that could fit all five of us)... and then drive us around for days.  This was before the internet and Yelp reviews of best places to visit so I have no idea how she even came up with these ideas!  Whenever my parents needed help with anything, she was the one they depended on because not only is she a doting and selfless daughter, she is fluent in English and Korean.

As far as oldest sisters go... I really really lucked out!

Los Gatos Mommy and Daughter Photography (9)

My sister and niece have a special bond for many reasons but I think one of the most significant reasons is that they are both first-born daughters.  There is a profound connection between a mother and her first-born because the first-born child changes a woman into a "mom."

Grace, always remember how much your mom loves you.  Unee, thank you for being such a loving and supportive sister and for always indulging my need to document all parts of this life.

Jennifer and Mike – San Francisco Maternity Photography

I have known Mike since college and, over time, we have become really good friends.  Thinking back, Mike has been there for me for a lot of things.  He came to my graduation, my wedding, my child's first birthday party.  He's a good friend... and he's going to be an amazing dad. His wife, Jennifer, is going to be as wonderful a mom as she is beautiful.

I met Jennifer almost exactly four years ago, today.  We had pizza.  I know this because it was a memorable moment.  It was so special that I took the following picture to commemorate the occasion.

They were engaged back then.  And, now, they're expecting a baby.

Jennifer and Mike are a great match.  They are both really funny, thoughtful and easy-going.  It's so sweet how Jennifer laughs at Mike's corny funny jokes.

Jennifer and Mike, we are so happy for you and can't wait to meet your new addition!  We are looking forward to hanging out more, eating undercooked food, and having play dates!

Baby M - San Jose Newborn Photography

Last year, I had the great privilege of photographing this beautiful family.  Nicole and Jeff are a lovely couple with a very sweet daughter (and two dogs)... but they had room in their hearts for another baby! So when Nicole contacted me about taking newborn photographs of their new baby boy,  I was so happy for them that I teared up!

I was touched and humbled and honored to take these photographs of Baby M...

Baby M was such a doll.  He was awake but completely happy throughout the entire session.

Baby N – Los Gatos Baby Photography

Where do I begin with this post?  I thought about just jumping into pictures but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to write a little bit about my friend, Janie. Janie and I first met at church a long time ago.  We weren't really close until we became college roommates.  And, as they say, we lived happily ever after.

Janie is like my older sister who is younger than me.  She saw me through my first break-up.  I saw her through a lot of really random funny moments (e.g. ants in her bag of cheetos, I Love Lucy reruns at midnight, cot-sleeping).  Just typing this makes me giggle.  College roommates are special, I think.  Or, at least, Janie is anyway.

I once bought her a bra.

She saw me cry over a bowl of oatmeal.

She was a bridesmaid at my wedding.  I made a slideshow for her's.

And even though she now lives over 2,000 miles away, we talk on the phone regularly.  Growing up, my mom had a few friends from Korea she always kept in touch with... Janie is one of those friends for me.

So when Janie came for a visit a few weeks back, we had a blast talking about everything from our old days at UCLA to motherhood... and, of course, had a mini photo session with her 6-month old cutie, Baby N!

But, first, let me introduce Baby N's awesome hair!

Los Gatos Baby Photography (1)

It was my first time meeting this little guy in person!

Los Gatos Baby Photography (6)

I think he gets his looks from his mommy but his personality from his daddy.  Baby N was such a chill, happy baby... that isn't to say that Janie isn't happy.

"Should I smile?"

This may have been when Janie tripped, I'm not sure...

Daniel, we missed you!  Thank you for sending your loves to us.  I hope we can all see eachother soon!
